Trauma Healing from the Comfort of Your Own Space

EMDR (Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing) is an evidence-based therapy that helps people process distressing or traumatic experiences so they no longer feel as emotionally overwhelming in the present. Rather than focusing only on talking through what happened, EMDR helps the brain reprocess stuck memories so they can be stored in a more adaptive, less distressing way.

What EMDR Helps With

EMDR is commonly used to support healing from:

  • Trauma and PTSD
  • Anxiety and panic symptoms
  • Childhood experiences and attachment wounds
  • Grief and loss
  • Medical or birth trauma
  • Phobias and distressing memories
  • Negative beliefs such as “I’m not safe” or “I’m not enough”

Many clients come to EMDR when they feel “stuck,” triggered, or aware that past experiences are still impacting their present life.

How EMDR Works

EMDR uses bilateral stimulation (such as guided eye movements, tapping, or audio tones) while briefly focusing on targeted memories or sensations. This helps the brain reprocess the experience so the emotional intensity decreases and more balanced beliefs can develop.

You do not need to give a detailed account of your trauma for EMDR to be effective.

EMDR via Telehealth

EMDR can be safely and effectively provided through secure, HIPAA-compliant telehealth sessions anywhere in New York State.

During virtual sessions, we may use:

  • On-screen visual tracking
  • Self-tapping techniques (such as the “butterfly hug”)
  • Audio bilateral stimulation (optional)

Telehealth EMDR allows you to do this work in a familiar environment, which can increase comfort and support nervous system regulation.

What to Expect

EMDR is a structured and paced process. We begin with preparation and coping skills before any trauma processing takes place. Sessions typically include:

  • Building grounding and stabilization skills
  • Identifying target memories and triggers
  • Processing in short, manageable sets
  • Frequent check-ins to ensure emotional safety
  • Ending with regulation and grounding

You remain in control throughout the process, and we move at a pace that feels safe for you.

Benefits of EMDR

Clients often experience:

  • Reduced emotional reactivity to triggers
  • Fewer intrusive thoughts or flashbacks
  • Improved nervous system regulation
  • Increased sense of safety and calm
  • Stronger self-esteem and more balanced beliefs about themselves
  • Greater ability to stay present in daily life

Is EMDR Right for You?

EMDR may be a good fit if you:

  • Feel stuck in past experiences
  • Experience anxiety rooted in earlier life events
  • Avoid certain memories, feelings, or situations
  • Know something “makes sense logically” but still feels emotionally overwhelming
  • Want trauma-focused healing without constantly retelling your story

A consultation can help determine whether EMDR is the right approach for your needs.
